Eid Milad-un-Nabi,12 Rabi ul Awal
The annual birth anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Eid Milad-un-Nabi, will be celebrated in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and several other countries on September 17, 2024. This day coincides with the 12th day of Rabi-ul-Awal and is highly sacrosanct to Muslims around the world. In the Arabic world, this Eid will fall on September 15, 2024.
Importance of 12 Rabi-ul-Awal:
The sacred date is that of the 12th Rabi-ul-Awal, which marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), considered the final messenger of Islam. It epitomizes values of peace, tolerance, and compassion. Muslims across the globe express their thanks to his teachings through their prayers, religious congregations, and charity work. Many mosques have a green pennant, marking the love of the Prophet for the color, and also the green flag as an emblem of Islam.
Ceremonies and Rites
In Pakistan, it is a public holiday. Offices and schools are closed to celebrate the Prophet’s birth. Religious scholars deliver sermons on the teachings of the Prophet (PBUH) and ask for education related to values like forgiveness, serving humanity, and spreading peace. Mosques all across the country provide special prayers, and processions and rallies take place in cities and towns to commemorate the occasion. The streets and homes have lights that mirror the happiness and respect people feel for the Prophet (PBUH).
Celebrations take place elsewhere in the Muslim world, although naturally, following distinct customs and traditions. In most cultures, food is distributed among the poor, and acts of charity become significant for the day itself.
Propose an Additional Holiday in the Province of Sindh
Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori presided over this meeting attended by religious scholars and officials, where Balochistan Governor Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail was also present. Governor Tessori of the province suggested that the two days, the 11th and 12th Rabi-ul-Awal should be declared public holidays because the Prophet’s (PBUH) birth is a part of history. This proposal will be presented to Prime Minister and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
The grand celebration was arranged in the Governor House on 12 Rabi-ul-Awal with special illumination and an open house to the public. The meeting reviewed the processions, gatherings, and rallies across the province to make sure that these celebrations were smooth and secure.
Every year, Eid Milad-un-Nabi reminds us of the steadfast and ever-increasing influence of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his mighty cause of peace and justice. It reminds Muslims of their love and respect for their Prophet (PBUH) and provokes reflection on his superb character and message for humanity.
