In recent weeks, several drones have appeared in the skies above New Jersey and Connecticut, which has raised various questions concerning their origin and use. On Thursday night, more drones were reportedly seen over Fairfield, Connecticut, contributing to reports made in adjoining states.
A video posted on social media by a Fairfield resident displayed five drones flying near a train station. People were speculated about their type, with a resident saying, “They don’t fly this far and this quiet; my husband owns a drone.” Similar sightings have been noted near LaGuardia Airport in New York and also over parts of New Jersey, including its largest reservoir, and coastal areas.
The incidents are being investigated by state and federal agencies, including the FBI and Department of Homeland Security. However, the Pentagon said they were not foreign-born and even had an alleged “Iranian mothership.” According to Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh, “There is no evidence that these drones pose a national security threat or are of foreign origin.”
While the government assures the public, local lawmakers have voiced concerns. Some of these drones are said to be so big that they are reportedly almost six feet in diameter. Moreover, some people even claimed that they were observed flying with lights off.
As much as the authorities might say that most of these observations are probably misidentified planes or manned aircraft, the probe still continues. There was no confirmation yet of violations of restricted airspace from the Federal Aviation Administration.
In addition, the residents are urged to report any drone sightings or other suspicious activities. As technology for drones advances, the strange occurrences call for revised rules and regulations to safeguard public security and safety.
