Nicholas Rossi, aka Nicholas Alahverdian, was once touted as an impassioned advocate for foster care reform in Rhode Island. Now, he is accused of a litany of crimes, including multiple rape charges and fraud across several states. His story is tonight’s “Dateline” on NBC, at 9 p.m., under the title The Man of Many Faces.
Nicholas Rossi, 37, allegedly staged his death in 2020 to avoid prosecution. Rossi was reported dead from cancer but appeared in Scotland in 2021 while being treated for COVID-19. He was extradited to the United States after a long legal fight in early 2022.
Among the charges against him, Nicholas Rossi is accused of raping two women in Utah in 2008 and sexually assaulting others in Rhode Island, Ohio, and Massachusetts. In Ohio, he was convicted of sexual imposition and public indecency in a 2008 case involving college student Mary Grebinski. Speaking exclusively to NBC, Grebinski said, “I should have been the last one.”
Grebinski shared her harrowing account of meeting Nicholas Rossi at Sinclair College, where he assaulted her in a stairwell. Her case connected him to other alleged crimes; Nicholas Rossi lost both defamation suits he filed against Grebinski.
In Utah, Nicholas Rossi will be tried twice on charges of rape and sits in jail awaiting a bail set at $250,000. Prosecutors argued that he was a flight risk based on his previous escape to Scotland and the use of aliases such as Arthur Knight.
He is once held for being smart and active but in this case, it reveals a much darker person. His case is expected to be concluded in 2025 and that marks the latest episode of the disturbing and complicated case.
