The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of certain 13-ounce bags of Lay’s Potato Chips because they contain an undeclared milk allergen. Products distributed in Oregon and Washington are affected by the recall, according to Frito-Lay, which cited a customer complaint as its reason for issuing the recall.
The recall involves “Guaranteed Fresh” bags with a date of February 11, 2025, and manufacturing codes 6462307xx or 6463307xx. Consumers are requested to check their bags against these details and discard the affected ones. Approximately 6,344 bags, which were sold through retail outlets and online distributors, are included in this recall.
Frito-Lay emphasized that a milk allergy or intolerance can cause severe allergic reactions, hives, abdominal cramps, difficulty breathing, and even anaphylaxis. No allergic reactions have been reported about this recall.
The company learned about the defect after a customer complained about it. After the report, the company verified the existence of undiscovered milk. Frito-Lay has instructed consumers to discard the affected product and contact the Consumer Relations team at 1-800-352-4477 to get a refund.
According to the company, the recall does not affect other products, flavors, and sizes of Lay’s. This is not the first time undeclared allergens have caused a recall as has been the case with other food products, hence the significance of proper labeling.
