Apparently, Disney seems to be interested in moving forward with the Indiana Jones video game franchise after the release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Industry insider Jez Corden, from Windows Central, reported that Disney has also expressed interest in furthering more games featuring the legendary adventurer. This is at a time when the highly acclaimed first-person adaptation of MachineGames and Bethesda had gained much praise.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which dropped earlier this year, was a game many were lauding for its engaging puzzles, compelling narrative, and a standout performance by Troy Baker as Dr. Henry Jones Jr. While experiencing some technical hiccups on the Steam Deck, the game was commercially successful, selling in its first week in North America as the second-best-selling title, after Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
The Future of Indiana Jones Gaming
The vice president of Lucasfilm Games, Douglas Reilly, has recently hinted at even more adaptations. No such projects are confirmed, however; Reilly is rather keen on exploring stories situated between films within the franchise, pointing out some good storytelling potential.
The Great Circle is something that critics and players praise to the hilt. Among the other attractions include great set pieces with cinematic action sequences, from trekking through the blizzard-tormented Himalayas to Egyptian temples in their great glory. Cutting-edge graphical fidelity, combined with snow-tracking technology, does wonders. In one particular frame, the depiction of Indiana Jones trekking through the blizzard does seem a bit reminiscent of Harrison Ford’s portrayal of Han Solo in Hoth.
Extending the Franchise
Rife speculation for future Indiana Jones games. Reliable sources claim new projects are already in the works, though details are scarce. Fans hope for a diverse range of gameplay styles, from first-person action to metroidvania-inspired adventures.
With The Great Circle’s success and renewed Disney interest, Indiana Jones may soon be looking at an exciting future in gaming, offering fans even more whip-cracking, relic-hunting adventures.
