Aaron Pierre is experiencing an exceptional year in 2024. This is largely due to his role in the forthcoming Netflix action-thriller series titled Rebel Ridge, as well as his portrayal of Mufasa in the recently released Lion King film.
Pierre’s early introduction to John Stewart came not from the comic books, but from the animated series Justice League Unlimited, which he considers one of his first encounters with the character. He credits the show for making Stewart a mainstream figure, a shift that began when the series chose Stewart over Hal Jordan as the Green Lantern of the Justice League. For many DC fans, Stewart is now the definitive Green Lantern, and Pierre’s casting has excited many.
Pierre is paired with Kyle Chandler in Lanterns and will go with him investigating a murder that happens within the American heartland in connection to a greater DC Universe storyline. In the new movie, it is reported that Pierre would be emulating the animation voice from Phil LaMarr so that his rendition of Stewart would more or less sound the same way.
The series is under the production of an exceptional team that includes showrunner Chris Mundy, known for his work on Ozark, and writers Damon Lindelof and Tom King. The performances of Pierre and Chandler as Green Lanterns are expected to be lively. A release date for Lanterns is set for 2025, along with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Creature Commandos will also appear on Max.
