Actor Henry Winkler has sparked outrage after saying via social media that some of the latest Los Angeles fires are the result of an arsonist. Winkler took to X (formerly Twitter), saying, “THERE IS an ARSONIST here in LA. May you be beaten unrecognizable!!! The pain you have caused!!!
According to NewsNation, after his post, one person was arrested in the Kenneth Fire in West Hollywood Hills. However, the L.A. Fire Department stated that there is no concrete evidence linking arson to the larger fires. Investigations are still ongoing.
Josh Gad and Yvette Nicole Brown, among others, share the same suspicions about this incident. Josh Gad even suggested that it might be arson while speaking on Threads. Yvette Nicole Brown labeled the Sunset Fire “suspicious.” This online argument stokes debate; some of the local commentators are siding with their argument, but the rest are condemning this claim for being speculative and a bit irresponsible.
Journalist Jemele Hill contributed to this debate by implying that some fires might be deliberate. However, experts say these are mainly a result of dry conditions and gusty winds.
Critics have called on influencers to avoid unfounded allegations. โSpeculating without evidence is horrible and serves absolutely no purpose,โ wrote one commenter under Gadโs post. While that was going on, Winkler was attacked for inciting conspiracy theories. Some people think that his claims overshadow the real issues, such as safety and recovery.
With the L.A. wildfires spreading rapidly, the authorities are calling for evidence-based investigations. The cause of the fires is yet to be determined since arson squads are diligently working to find the truth. Experts, meanwhile, discourage the spreading of unverified theories to prevent panic in the public.
