A brush fire that began from a house fire in the 41000 block of Fig Street Thursday evening had evacuated parts of Murrieta. Authorities announced at 9 p.m. that forward progress had been stopped on the fire, which had brought concerns of spread.
Murrieta Fire and Rescue responded to the incident just before 6:30 p.m. The fire quickly spread from the structure to the surrounding vegetation when gusty winds exceeded 20 mph, making nearby homes and businesses susceptible to damage. Residents in the MURR-2150-A zone were evacuated with boundaries north of Elm Street, south of Murrieta Hot Springs Road, east of Jefferson Avenue, and west of the I-15 Freeway.
Additional evacuation notices were issued for neighboring zones, namely MURR-2150-B, MURR-2150-C, MURR-2086, and MURR-2149. Authorities encouraged residents in these zones to stay on the lookout and wait for clearance before going back to their homes.
Emergency responders and supplemental firefighting units battled the blaze, successfully stopping its forward progression. Evacuation orders are still in place, and authorities continue to closely monitor the situation. Throughout the affected areas, roads remain closed; residents requiring immediate assistance have been advised to call 951-461-6368.
Murrieta officials also issued a warning against drone activity within the fire zone, citing drones as a danger to operations regarding firefighting.
The fire is visible from I-15 and I-215. For the latest information, residents are advised to follow updates from Murrieta Fire and Rescue.
