North Korea Reveals Uranium Enrichment Facility, For the first time, North Korea showed pictures of its uranium enrichment facility and ordered the production of more centrifuges to beef up nuclear weapons by its leader Kim Jong Un. According to the state-run Korean Central News Agency, Kim visited the Nuclear Weapons Institute and a facility producing weapon-grade nuclear materials. However, the location and date of his visit were not reported.
Photos released show Kim inspecting rows of metal centrifuges used to enrich uranium for nuclear warheads. The unprecedented reveal puts into light a highly advanced nuclear program headed by North Korea in full defiance of United Nations sanctions. Kim said the need for more materials was intended to bolster the country’s nuclear arsenal against threats by the US and its allies.
Experts viewed this public disclosure as a signal of North Korea’s growing commitment to strengthening its nuclear capabilities. South Korea and the U.S. have condemned the development and warned of a strong response to any provocations.
