Squid Game Netflix
It is alleged that Netflix’s international sensation series, Squid Game, copied the plot from an Indian film Luck, released back in 2009. The filmmaker of Luck, Soham Shah, has sued Netflix and Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of Squid Game, for rip-off plagiarism over its storyline. As held in documents, TMZ states that Shah claims these two productions entail a group of money-starved individuals competing through games where the stakes are death as each bid to win huge sums of money and the rich chance their arms by staking on outcomes.
Shah claims he was the one who came up with Luck in the year 2006 and launched it globally in the year 2009, and still, he claims that Netflix had a chance to access his film through its global marketing and advertisement, whereas the lawsuit shows that Hwang Donghyuk started writing Squid Game just when Luck hit the box offices.
In his complaint, Shah mentions that the financial impact of Squid Game enabled Netflix’s market value to grow by more than $900 million. He is applying for damages and wants to prevent Netflix from further pirating his copyright.
So far, there has been no public response to the lawsuit by Netflix.
