Kenyans Peoples Protesting agianst the President William Ruto and Urge UN to Condemn William Ruto Amid Police Brutality Concerns

Kenyans are bringing focus upon the United Nations and pushing the global entity to act on President William Ruto amid the police brutality tide in the country. Advocates have begun rallying immediate actions using the hashtag #BanRutoAtUNGA79, a scenario very much akin to the one that led to an international outcry over the death of George Floyd and catalyzed the formation of the #BlackLivesMatter movement.

Issues of police violence and excessive force have become commonplace in daily occurrences, raising so many questions about why the United Nations still gives Ruto a platform when such allegations surround him. His government has been accused of maintaining a culture of fear and repression, and there are louder calls for accountability.

The hashtag campaign for this cause aims to draw attention to what many perceive as a double standard in international response. It was one thing for the world to rally against police brutality in the United States. It is another thing to sit quietly regarding Ruto’s administration, raising human rights and justice concerns in Kenya.

It is hoped that international pressure will make them question Ruto’s legitimacy as a leader and precipitate a more forceful response from the UN in terms of the treatment of citizens by law enforcement agencies.
