Lucas Bravo, star of the Netflix hit series “Emily in Paris” as Gabriel aired his mixed feelings on whether or not to continue with the popular series. In a French newspaper interview with Le Figaro, Bravo said he doesn’t feel inspired by the show and feels that the series lacks intellectual depth. “Life is short,” said the 36-year-old actor. “It takes five months to shoot this series. Do I want to sacrifice them by telling something that does not stimulate me?”
Bravo, Emily’s love interest to Lily Collins, cited frustration with the storyline’s reliance on clichรฉs and unresolved romantic tension, calling it a “1990s idea” that perpetuates outdated depictions of relationships. “Everything is based on a lack of communication,” Bravo noted, adding that he would like to see his character, Gabriel, show more confidence and “panache” fitting today’s standards of emotional maturity.
Emily in Paris, which premiered in 2020, has been the most popular as well as divisive, pulling an alleged 58 million viewers in its first year. Love its gentle wit, hate it, and say the writing is shallow, the characters underdeveloped, and the depiction of Paris merely stereotypical. A great analogy to this feeling can be seen in the views of Brooklyn sports writer Greg Wyshynski when he compared the series to “slicing garlic with a razor. thin on characters, plots, and stakes.” Another fan by the name of London-based blogger Jenny Marston concurs: “It’s very ‘cringe’ at moments. but its quirkiness makes it a light, fun watch.”.
While Season 5 will be broadcast later in 2025, Bravo indicated that he could leave for another project. The French actor recently stepped out to try new creative directions for Libre, a French crime film about a thief, for which he states he gets to do much more creatively. “I’m getting a taste for it,” he reports, indicating he likes those projects better where he gets the creative latitude.
