A disturbing video has surfaced of a known transgender activist from Peshawar, Dolphin Ayan, causing mass public agitations and demanding immediate justice. The video, which is presumed to be more than two years old that someone made without her consent, surfaced on social networking sites, which portrayed harassment at gunpoint. Thus, Dolphin Ayan herself has lodged an official complaint and termed the video recorded against her as being non-consensual while raising an issue with the repeated surfacing of that video.
He further added that the video was forcefully recorded, and a report has been filed with local authorities as well as the FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing. Ayan has given his name and address to the law enforcement agency; they demand immediate identification and prosecution of the responsible parties behind the leakage of footage. “This was an invasion of privacy, and they must be brought to accountability,” Ayan said in the discussion while emphasizing the commitment to file a case against the perpetrators of this injustice.
Local authorities revealed that the video was two years old and were engaged actively with FIA officials in taking action against the breach of privacy and crime possibly committed against the laws related to cybercrime in Pakistan.
Public anger escalated when the video went viral, and citizens demanded justice and proper protection for transgender persons. Many were shocked that this maltreatment of transgenders was going to continue and urged the law enforcement agencies to hasten their respective investigations and take stern actions against cyber harassment. The demands for security and legal reforms of the transgender community took a firmer stand with activism demanding more drastic actions from the Cybercrime Act in place.
The research is expected to shape dealing with cyber harassment and issues of privacy in Pakistan, especially in its marginalized communities.
