A fatal armed robbery involving an armored truck occurred Wednesday morning in Kings Mountain when one armored truck guard was killed. The incident occurred about 9 a.m. outside a pharmacy on East King Street, where the victim had been servicing an ATM. Authorities identified the victim as Richard Walter Henderson IV, 29, of Charlotte.
Kings Mountain Police Chief Gerald Childress stated that he was shot multiple times attempting to rob the armored truck and died at the scene. Chief Childress confirmed he was armed, though is not clear if he would have been able to act in his defense. Details are sparse at this hour, but police have not concluded whether money was taken during the attempted robbery.
The suspect left in a newer-model black Jeep Compass, with a star decal on the hood and temporary paper tags. Police shared surveillance images of the vehicle and are asking anyone with information to contact the Kings Mountain Police Department at 704-734-0444.
It was indeed so severe that the FBI entered it, but Cleveland County’s Sheriff’s Office assisted the locals. The determination that Chief Childress held inside him did not sound out when he declared to say, “We will find you; we will find you in due course and bring justice upon ourselves”.
The tragic incident is one among the spate of armored truck robberies in recent months in the greater Charlotte area. The crimes that involved a similar nature occurred over the past six months within Statesville and Charlotte as well as Rowan County; therefore, the public concerns were over the safety of the personnel in these armored trucks.
