Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson has been diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer’s, in addition to a blood disorder considered life-threatening. His son, Jase Robertson, broke the news on the family’s podcast, Unashamed with the Robertson Family, on Friday.
“Phil’s not doing well,” Jase revealed. “The doctors have diagnosed him with a blood disease that’s causing problems throughout his body. Combined with early-stage Alzheimer’s, it has become a tough struggle for him.”
The 78-year-old television personality has been a strong presence on the family’s podcast, but his health has deteriorated to the point that he is unable to participate since he can no longer walk or talk without significant pain.
Jase made mention of the efforts of the family in helping Robertson find comfort amidst such a difficult time. “We have a team of doctors who are working on his case, but they have explained that there is no cure,” he said. “The focus now is making him comfortable and supporting him in any way possible.”.
Phil Robertson gained fame from the show Duck Dynasty, which ran from 2012 to 2017 and featured the family’s lives as well as their Duck Commander Company. Off television, he has been an outspoken, strong Christian, making many public statements that have been both praised and panned.
Despite his health problems, the Robertson family is thankful for the numerous prayers and support of the fans. “He misses sharing stories on the podcast,” Jase shared, “but we’re doing what we can to preserve his memory and make his days meaningful.”
The resilience and unshaken faith of the family reflects their determination to help their dear patriarch in this tough journey.
