Ilyas Ahmad Bilour, senior ANP leader and former senator, is dead. He was 84 years old. He had been on treatment for kidney disease at a private hospital in Islamabad when the body finally succumbed to the illness in the wee hours of the morning today.
Bilour, brother of the ANP leaders Ghulam Ahmad Bilour and the late martyred, Bashir Ahmad Bilour had remained a stalwart in Pakistan’s political landscape for so long. He has been under treatment for the past few months. Doctors fought till the early hours of the morning to save his life, but he breathed his last at 4 AM today.
A funeral prayer for him will be offered tomorrow 17th Nov 2024 at 2 PM at Wazir Bagh Peshawar which will be followed by his burial in the family’s ancestral graveyard. The ANP and the Bilour family are in receipt of condolences from all parts of the country where people shower a lot of praise on his political contributions.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in a tribute that Ilyas Bilour was dedicated to the service of the public, proving himself an exemplary representative of the people. President Asif Ali Zardari and KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi dispatched their special condolence messages, stating the late leader significantly contributed to politics as well as society.
Ilyas Bilour was a very important figure of ANP, who won the post of senator in 2012 and stayed there until 2018. He was also a strong trader and business leader of the country, who never hesitated to promote trade and commerce throughout the region.
The loss of Ilyas Bilour is really a very hard time for the Bilour family because they have always been a part of Peshawar’s political mainstream and social mainstream.
