Anthony Edwards returned quickly from a brief scare due to an ankle injury to Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Timberwolves star guard tweaked his left ankle in the third quarter and walked off the court for evaluation. Fortunately, the injury was minor, and Anthony Edwards returned to action in the fourth quarter.
The exit was precautionary, but no more issues arose from it. Anthony Edwards’ quick return meant the Timberwolves could depend on their dynamic guard for the rest of the game. Anthony Edwards’ play has been key to Minnesota’s aspirations this season, and resilience on Friday underscored his importance to the team.
Similarly, The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski reported that Anthony Edwards went straight into the locker room after the injury, leaving fans and coaches with doubts about whether or not he would return to the game. His return however silenced any doubts about whether he would play again.
Had Edwards been held out, the Timberwolves could have been significantly worse off for the remaining minutes of the game. That would have also led head coach Chris Finch to rely more on bench minutes from players like Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Donte DiVincenzo.
While the Timberwolves can finally breathe with this injury scare passing, Edwards’ health will need to be monitored very closely to not compromise him for any of the NBA schedule looming ahead. His commitment to rejoining the game was a demonstration of leadership and personal dedication to his team.
