Anthony Robles‘ story is a testimony of human endurance at a time when the concept of overcoming adversities seems nearly impossible. Being born without his right leg, he later becomes the national NCAA wrestling champion in sports as well as the inspiration source among boundaries.
New Biopic Unstoppable tells the story of Robles’ life, evolving from being a struggling high school student to being an undefeated champion at Arizona State University. Directed by William Goldenberg, the intensity of collegiate wrestling is interwoven with drama to capture the true essence of Robles’ life. Jharrel Jerome is becoming somewhat of a rising star, and he stars as Robles. Jennifer Lopez brings to the screen power as Judy, the mother.
The movie plots the most crucial moments in Robles’ life chronologically, including rigorous training sessions, battles with self-doubt, and unflinching support from his mother. One great scene shows Robles conquering a steep hill during a rigorous training session on crutches-symbolizing his relentless spirit.
What is very interesting is that for the wrestling scenes, Robles acted as Jerome’s stunt double. “It brought back memories of the struggles and the triumphs,” Robles recalled during a press interview.
In turn, the movie also tells how it was so hard to adapt Robles’ story into a film, with many years of delay and a whole sequence of starts and stops. Still, just as in Robles’ journey, the power of persistence prevailed, bringing the film into theaters and online for the whole world to watch.
Unstoppable is a sports drama that goes beyond that level of transformation; it is more about determination, family, and proving doubters wrong. It helps one recall greatness does not come about through perfection but through refusal to quit even when the case is deemed impossible.
