Ariana Grande has completely dived into her role as Glinda the Good Witch in the much-awaited film adaptation of Wicked, and that is evident through fashion and an emotional tribute to the original Wizard of Oz character. On November 3, at the premiere in Sydney, Australia, Grande wore a beautiful blush pink Vivienne Westwood gown reminiscent of the classic style of Glinda’s 1939 look.
Grande’s corset bodice was structured, with rhinestone swirls and sheer sleeves that were full and very voluminous. The skirt, a cascading waterfall of tulle, took the classic ballgown shape from the floor and flowed gently to the ground. It was a very close take on the original gown worn by Billie Burke as Glinda in The Wizard of Oz, which paid tribute to the character’s history. Grande completed the look with a diamond butterfly choker and her signature blonde hair in a half-up, half-down style.
The star-studded premiere was held on a “yellow brick road” carpet. Grande was accompanied by Wicked co-stars Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba, and her partner Ethan Slater, who portrays Boq. Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, and Marissa Bode attended the event, all of whom were dressed to the nines.
Grande is devoted to her part as Glinda after the premiere, going so far as to incorporate it into her social media bio: “somewhere over the rainbow,” along with a tattoo dedicated to her character. This devotion speaks to a deep connection she has with her portrayal of Glinda, and fans are more than eager to see her paired on-screen with Erivo’s Elphaba in this modern adaptation by director Jon M. Chu.
