In the dramatic series finale of 9-1-1: Lone Star, Austin was struck by an asteroid and a nuclear disaster, yet the main characters miraculously survived.
The episode briefly suggested that Tommy Vega (Gina Torres) and Owen Strand (Rob Lowe) had perished, but executive producer Rashad Raisani ultimately chose hope over tragedy. “I wanted people to leave with hope,” Raisani told TheWrap.
Tommy, who was battling breast cancer, had a near-death experience when she saw her late husband Charles. However, she later entered remission, securing a hopeful future. Meanwhile, paramedic Mateo (Julian Works), a DACA recipient, faced deportation but was granted citizenship after his heroic efforts.
Owen, the courageous fire captain, risked everything to prevent a nuclear catastrophe but survived. Instead of staying in Austin, he opted for a fire chief position in New York, which completed his character arc.
TK (Ronen Rubinstein) and Carlos (Rafael Silva) were heartbroken when they were told they could not adopt due to dangerous work. After this, TK quit the fire station to stay home with his son. Firefighter Marjan (Natacha Karam) was also very severely injured in an explosion but later is seen being pregnant.
Judd (Jim Parrack), the oldest firefighter at the 126, stepped back to care for his son Wyatt after a life-altering accident. By the finale, he was back and became captain.
Paul (Brian Michael Smith) lived up to his promise of being a role model by saving a young trans teen, Jax, who later found purpose at the fire station.
The final had a message of survival, resilience, and new beginnings, considering the catastrophic events.
