Australia Secures T20 Series, Australia dominated the second T20 match against Pakistan, which was won by 13 runs at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), securing an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The win came thanks to such a stellar bowling performance under Spencer Johnson that the latter earned the Player of the Match award for his excellent figures of 5/26 in four overs.
Australia, batting first posted a modest total of 147/9 in their 20 overs. Matt Short provided a brisk start with a quick 32 off 17 balls, while Aaron Hardie contributed 28 runs from 23 deliveries. Pakistan bowlers kept the Australian batting in check, as highlights were mainly through Haris Rauf (4/22) and Abbas Afridi (3/17).
Chasing 148, Pakistan’s batting failed to deliver despite a gallant effort by opener Usman Khan, who scored 52 off 38 balls, and Irfan Khan, who added 37 from 28 deliveries. Aussie bowlers were composed, with Adam Zampa (2/19) and Xavier Bartlett (1/18) accompanying Johnson’s brilliance. Pakistan was bowled out for 134 in 19.4 overs.
The match yet again showcased Australia’s defense of a meager total, though their bowling depth came in great utility. Though Pakistan’s bowlers performed admirably, the batsmen could not maintain consistency against the Australians’ disciplined attack.
The final of the series will be played at the same venue. Pakistan hopes to leave some dignity, while Australia expects to win the series comprehensively. Performances here so far exemplify the Australians’ dominance in this shortest of formats, and Spencer Johnson’s bowling was the tipping point for this series.
