Craig Sicknick, the brother of U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who died after the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, has endorsed Representative Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) in her bid for the Democratic nomination for governor of New Jersey.
Among these residents in Middlesex County is Craig Sicknick who has been vocal about the former President, Donald Trump after Trump announced a pardon for over 1,500 people accused of being part and parcel of January 6th incidents.
“For President Trump to pardon those people that attacked my brother and desecrated the Capitol is a gut punch not just to my family, but to the rule of law, said Sicknick. “In this critical moment, New Jersey needs a leader with the backbone to defend our values, and Mikie Sherrill is that leader.
Sicknick praised Sherrill’s commitment to accountability and her willingness to “speak truth to power.” He added, “Mikie has the vision, integrity, and courage to guide New Jersey through challenging times. I’m proud to support her in the Democratic Primary.”
Former Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn, who testified during the January 6 hearings after speaking publicly about what he experienced during the attack, also endorsed Sherrill. “Mikie stands for accountability and transparency. At a time when lawlessness is emanating from Trump’s Washington, we need leaders like her to protect our rights and freedoms,” Dunn said.
It follows Sicknick publicly denouncing elected officials who participated in or facilitated the January 6 events. Last year, he criticized Republican challenger Joseph Belnome in New Jersey’s 11th congressional district for participating in the protest.
As she runs for governor, endorsements like those from Sicknick and Dunn underscore her promise of accountability and strong governance during a time so politically divisive.
