Multiple fires in Chesterfield County have left families homeless, as they occurred in three separate homes across the weekend.
On Saturday, November 23, a kitchen fire at a home on North Stevens Hollow Drive displaced seven residents, including five adults and two children. Chesterfield Fire & EMS crews responded to the scene at 1:46 p.m. After arriving, crews were able to contain the fire within 20 minutes. One person sustained non-life-threatening burns and was taken to a local hospital. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced family, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Later that evening, a fire occurred at a home on Woodpecker Road. The crews discovered that the fire was limited to the living room and put it out with minimal spread to the rest of the house. There were no injuries. Five people were evacuated, and the American Red Cross has begun providing them with assistance. Investigators are still trying to determine where the fire began.
A third occurred late on Friday evening, when a garage fire that spread to the main house on Fawndale Drive hit severe gusts, momentarily forcing firefighters to retreat before reasserting control. The fire was knocked out by 7:25 p.m. There were no injuries, but two displaced residents were being put up with family.
The Chesterfield Fire Marshal’s Office is examining what happened and how to prevent such fires from happening in the future. It’s focused on fire safety awareness as the community deals with these tragic events. It asks local residents to be more cautious, especially when it comes to smoke detectors, cooking, and heating, especially in the months of cold.
