Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping has spoken directly to the nation’s military forces, calling for increased training and readiness as a prelude to possible conflict. On a trip to a Rocket Force brigade under the People’s Liberation Army, Xi spoke with the troops there, exhorting them towards greater strides both in combat capability and in strategic deterrence.
This visit is coming in the wake of a series of major military maneuvers off Taiwan’s coast as a testimony of an assertive stance in its military diplomacy. Xi’s visit to the missile troops located in strategic positions indicates that he places above everything else as regional tensions heighten.
Xi Jinping was straightforward and to the point regarding what he expected his soldiers to do: “Concentrate all your energy on fighting, strengthen efforts on enhancing your capability to win,” he said. His rallying call underlined that only thorough training and preparedness can enable the fulfillment of the military goals and ensure the safety of the country.
He also highlighted the fact that the PLA needs to prove itself worthy of the expectations held by the Communist Party of China and its people. He requested the armed forces to obey faithfully their duties with absolute firmness. His focus on strengthening the deterrent power of the country indicates the strategic approach toward strengthening China’s position in the face of global challenges.
That renewed emphasis on military preparedness has been seen as an indication of China’s seriousness in going through its interests and further extending its influence within the region. Xi’s orders are mainly to fulfill the goal of having the PLA do its job well in meeting all the potential conflicts that may come along. As such, China reiterates its commitment to a formidable defense capability.
