The awards ceremony on November 20, 2024, in Nashville came with the 58th Annual Country Music Association Awards. The night’s biggest winner had become Chris Stapleton. Five nominations awaited Stapleton, but only two Single of the Year and Song of the Year for his hit “White Horse” – would seal the deal. The first acceptance speech from the morning was thankfully not where an important acknowledgment fell through the cracks: his wife and collaborator, Morgane Stapleton, who coproduced the track.
During his second win of the night, Stapleton made amends, saying, “I owe my wife an apology. That last award also belonged to her.” He explained the oversight due to whirlwind emotions, adding, “I really owe a lot to her, so I thank her for her support.”
The couple has been together since 2007 and proved a powerful musical duo. Morgane was often among the names involved with Stapleton’s successes.
Stapleton and Post Malone did an excellent job performing “California Sober,” which led off the ceremony. Other highlights included a tribute to George Strait with the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as Lainey Wilson being named Female Vocalist of the Year.
Morgan Wallen won Entertainer of the Year, among other accolades. Cody Johnson and Lainey Wilson had standout nights for themselves.
Some minor sound issues were detectable during the broadcast, but the CMA Awards overflowed with the growth, artistry, and emotional stories that fill country music.
The CMA Awards broadcast live on ABC and can be streamed live on Hulu.
