Cold and dry weather was prevailing in most areas, while a weak westerly wave was influencing western and upper areas. Severe cold wave, already causing significant temperature drops mainly in Sindh and north, continued unabated by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
According to the PMD, cold conditions are expected to prevail in most areas, while upper places will remain very cold and partly cloudy. Isolated pockets of Gilgit-Baltistan and the nearby hills are likely to have rain or snowfall in various areas, bringing much-needed relief to residents.
Fogs will surely affect visibility at night during the nighttime hours in the plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh. Motorists are advised to take caution when driving through areas where there is a fogging alert.
In Karachi, the metropolis had its coldest night of the month on Saturday when temperatures plunged to 9.2°C. In the vicinity of Jinnah Terminal, the minimum temperature dived further to 8.5°C. According to the PMD, Karachi’s minimum temperature is likely to vary between 9-12°C during the next two days. The city’s maximum temperature on Saturday was recorded at 25.3°C, while humidity levels plummeted to 13% in the evening.
The cold wave is more intense in the Tharparkar and Umerkot districts, where night temperatures are reported to be 3-5°C below normal. The rest of Sindh is also in the grip of temperatures ranging from 2-4°C below average, so the impact of the cold wave is getting stronger.
Residents across Pakistan are urged to take precautions against harsh weather, especially during nights, when temperatures are expected to remain unusually low.
