Crunchyroll announces panel during the Sony Group Corporation press conference at CES 2025 that an anime adaptation of the video game Ghost of Tsushima by Sucker Punch Productions is now in production. The series will take elements from the game’s multiplayer mode, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, and come exclusively to Crunchyroll in 2027.
Star Wars: Visions Takanobu Mizuno (Kamikaze Douga, the one that handles its animation), understory composition from Gen Urobuchi. This is co-production by Kamikaze Douga and Aniplex, which Sony Music shall supply to their soundtracks, the staff, and the rest of the voice talents not revealed as yet.
Ghost of Tsushima premiered in 2020 on the PlayStation 4 and received numerous positive reviews concerning how well it engrossed gamers with its immersive gameplay and rich graphics. Ghost of Tsushima takes place in 1274, where Jin Sakai fights to survive the Mongol invaders using any tactic he needs. Its multi-player spinoff, Legends is a Japanese Folklore-inspired game and released in October 2020. A direct sequel to Ghost of Tsushima was announced as Ghost of Yōtei in 2025.
Rahul Purini, Crunchyroll president, said, “This anime will bring the game’s traditional samurai aesthetics to life with cinematic storytelling and striking visuals, offering fans a new way to experience Ghost of Tsushima.
It was quite interesting to see the anime revealed with the press release, but more details came with the company announcing a stand-alone manga app as a premium add-on for subscribers. It will be released in the United States and Canada at the end of this year with works from top publishers. This deal further inflates the offerings of Crunchyroll.
The collaboration marks a synergy between the gaming, music, and anime branches of Sony, promising an enhanced and immersive adaption of the game.
