The Middle Eastern carrier has revealed plans to launch a third direct non-stop service between Melbourne and Dubai starting from March 30, 2025. This new service will substitute the long-standing Melbourne-Singapore-Dubby route which the Emirates will end after almost three decades of operations on this busy fifth freedom route.
The new non-stop flight, EK405, will leave Melbourne at 11:55 PM and arrive in Dubai at 7:00 AM. The return flight, EK404, will leave Dubai at 9:15 PM and arrive in Melbourne at 5:40 PM. These timings have been strategically coordinated with Emirates’ morning departures to various destinations in Europe, the UK, and Africa.
This will be Emirates’ refurbished Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, which shows the airline’s latest business-class design. The Boeing 777 now comes in a 1-2-1 configuration, giving every passenger direct aisle access. Business class is fully lie-flat with a 23-inch HD screen as well as multiple charging options. Emirates also has a premium economy cabin on the aircraft with 24 seats which gives a chance to travelers for an upgraded travel experience.
The new Dubai-Melbourne route will increase connectivity, but it has left travelers scrounging around to book alternative flights since Emirates canceled the Melbourne-Singapore route. Emirates has guaranteed full refunds or rebooking options for affected travelers, but customers like Chelsea Carden, who booked connecting flights using Qantas Points, are frustrated by a lack of timely communication from the airline.
The airline will continue its Singapore-Dubai service with new flight numbers despite the termination of the route. According to Emirates, it will no longer operate the Melbourne-Singapore leg because of aero political agreements, during which time it is exercising its fifth freedom rights.
It will provide three daily non-stop flights between Melbourne and Dubai, offering passengers more convenient schedules and seamless connections to Europe and beyond.
