Italy Stuns France with 3-1 Comeback Victory in Nations League Opener

France Vs Italy

Italy came back in fine style after going a goal down early to record a 3-1 victory over France in Nations League A Group 2 on Friday. The Italians showed great spirit and made the match at Parc des Princes in Paris quite an entertaining one.

The Azzurri’s match got off to the worst possible start, as Les Bleus managed to draw first blood deep inside the first minute of the match. Bradley Barcola received a through-ball after Giovanni Di Lorenzo gave away possession and then beat Gianluigi Donnarumma with an exquisite curled shot to provide an early advantage for France.

Not fazed by the early setback, Italy restored parity thirty minutes later. Federico Dimarco was at hand to volley in a Sandro Tonali backheel, drawing parity and opening up what was to be an exciting match. The two teams went into the halftime break level 1-1, after a frenetic and pulsating first half.

The second half started with the Italians taking the lead, indeed just five minutes after the break, Davide Frattesi scored a goal that put the Italians ahead to send the French side and crowd into shock. Italy continued pressing on and in the 74 minutes of the game Giacomo Raspadori added a third goal that sealed up the win and silenced Parc des Princes.

Both teams went into the match looking for some redemption from poor Euro 2024 showings, but it was Italy who claimed the three-nil victory that got them off to an important win that will boost their confidence in the competition.

France, on the other hand, needs to recover quickly from this poor start, as they seek to redeem themselves in subsequent matches.
