Country Music superstar George Strait was also given the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award in this year’s 2024 CMA Awards. The ceremony was held on November 20 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. It marked virtually half of Strait’s career.
The night was full of stellar country artists when Miranda Lambert, Chris Stapleton, and Lainey Wilson took the stage to make a tribute performance by singing some of Strait’s biggest hits. Among them were these great ones; Amarillo By Morning and Troubadour. Strait joined with Stapleton to sing Honky Tonk Hall of Fame, drawing an applauding audience.
While receiving the coveted award, 72-year-old Strait thanked the CMA, his fans, and family members for the honor. “I want to thank the CMAs for adding my name to this incredible list of artists honored in Willie Nelson’s name,” Strait said. He also made a special mention to his wife Norma who stood through their 53 years of marriage and his son Bubba, daughter-in-law Tamara, and their grandchildren who attended the ceremony.
Strait also took a moment to pay tribute to late members of his team, including longtime manager Erv Woolsey and fiddle player Gene Elders. “Their contributions to my life and career are immeasurable,” he said.
Known as the “King of Country,” Strait has recorded more than 30 platinum albums, and 60 No. 1 singles and earned innumerable accolades, including 17 CMA Awards. Last winter, Strait became the record-setter for largest ticketed concert in U.S. history when more than 110,000 filled AT&T Stadium in Arlington. “He’s authentically Texas and authentically Country,” said CMA CEO Sarah Trahern. “His influence on both legends and new artists will be felt for generations.”.
The 58th CMA Awards broadcast live on ABC and also streamed on Hulu so everyone around the world can watch this spectacular tribute to country music royalty.
