Google is said to have readied “Project Jarvis,” an AI-based product to automate several user tasks within the Chrome browser. It will be a response, so to speak, on behalf of Google to the big action model concept created by Rabbit, which has potential use in terms of research, buying, or even booking flights. So it comes at a pretty appropriate time when the best of the tech companies seem to be pushing the lines in terms of digital automation.
Project Jarvis will reportedly run on a next-generation version of Google’s Gemini model, optimized to run natively in the web browser environment. According to insiders on the project, Jarvis was designed to work specifically inside Chrome, which makes it easier to parse and interact with content on screen. The tool captures screenshots for it to be able to understand the content of web pages, which enables it to click the buttons and enter text wherever necessary to execute the instructions. However, it takes a couple of seconds to execute every single command.
Google is playing catch-up with these players: Microsoft, Apple, and Anthropic. The “Copilot Vision” according to Microsoft is something that will give users real-time discussions on web pages. Apple is said to work on something called “Apple Intelligence” which seems to be just automation across different apps. Then there’s Anthropic. Just recently, the company released the beta version of its assistant, Claude. Word is, the thing is kind of weak yet.
While Jarvis is still ahead of the curve and thus widely awaited, its launching in December may just be delayed, say the sources. Still, the reason for its non-launch would be so-called “testing” among minimal users for a pilot analysis. Then, these are going to give some preliminary feedback that would help refine Jarvis before the full release.
