Dune: Prophecy – the prequel to Denis Villeneuve’s films – comes to HBO and Max this Sunday, as part of the Dune universe, telling the origin story of the Bene Gesserit, sisterhood with supernatural powers, and what power really is.
Set 10,000 years before the events of the Dune films, the eight-episode series dives into the early machinations of the Bene Gesserit and the growing feud between the Atreides and Harkonnen families. It will provide insight into how this sisterhood began as an ambitious group and developed into a powerful faction able to sway empires.
It premiered on November 19th at 9 p.m. EST and much, much more could happen as viewers find out the beginning of a plot that would frame the future of the universe. Fans can view it on HBO’s TV channel or also stream via Max, starting at $9.99 per month.
A full cast of stars, including Emily Watson as Valya Harkonnen, Olivia Williams as Tula Harkonnen, Travis Fimmel as Desmond Hart, and Mark Strong as Emperor Javicco Corrino; with Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, and Jade Anouka.
The producers insist, however, that the series is an extension of the films and faithful to Frank Herbert’s original novels. Dune: Prophecy surely takes one through some of the complex political intrigue and machinations that dominate the universe.
As the saga of Dune continues to capture hearts, Dune: Prophecy promises to add depth and context to this elaborate world of Arrakis, forcing audiences into a thrilling journey into the past of one of the most enduring stories in science fiction.
