MiG-29 Fighter Jet Crashes

An IAF MiG-29 fighter jet crashed in the district of Barmer in Rajasthan‘ on Monday due to a critical technical snag it developed mid-flying. It was on a routine training mission when the incident happened. No casualties have been reported.

The plane took off from an Air Force base in the Barmer sector and caught fire after crashing into a field near Uttarlai, a most open area with very few people. No loss of life or damage to property was reported.

The Indian Air Force on X confirmed the incident: “In a routine night training sortie in the Barmer sector, an IAF MiG-29 faced a critical technical snag, and the pilot had to eject.”.The pilot is safe, and no loss of life or property was reported.”

It has ordered a Court of Inquiry into the cause of the accident. Senior district officials, including Barmer District Collector Nishant Jain and Superintendent of Police Narendra Singh Meena, reached the site to assess the situation arising from the crash.

This is at least the sixth crash involving MiG-29 jets this year, raising concerns over the reliability of this aging fleet.
