India has termed the Iran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s comments on Indian Muslims as “completely unacceptable and misinformed.” Khamenei made these remarks on Prophet Mohammed’s birthday by invoking anguish for Muslims struggling in different parts of the world, including India, Gaza, and Myanmar.

Khamenei wrote in an X post: “We cannot call ourselves Muslims, when unaware of the plight a Muslim is facing in #Myanmar, #Gaza, #India, etc.” He is also accused of showing compassion towards the sufferings of Muslims to the enemies of Islam.

The Indian government was quick to react, calling the statements “baseless”. We strongly condemn the remarks about minorities in India made by the Supreme Leader of Iran. These are misinformed and unacceptable,” the MEA said in a statement. The ministry added that making such criticisms is something other nations need to do first for their own human rights records.
