There is surprising news that Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter has come up as a defendant named in an amended civil complaint who along with Sean “Diddy” Combs sodomized a 13-year-old girl at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000, the woman, identified through court papers as “Jane Doe,” filed the civil action against Combs in early October.

The woman alleges she was intoxicated and raped by both men after becoming woozy from a drink at the event. According to the lawsuit, she ran off after hitting Combs. The lawsuit has since expanded to include Jay-Z, who has publicly denied involvement, denouncing the allegations as “heinous” and a “blackmail attempt.”

Jay-Z, speaking through his entertainment company Roc Nation, argued that this kind of serious accusation deserves a criminal complaint and not a civil lawsuit. At the same time, he demanded legal transparency while showing his concerns: “I mourn yet another loss of innocence. My wife and I must now explain these baseless claims to our children.”

Denying all allegations, Combs, who is facing dozens of civil suits alleging sexual misconduct and was indicted on sex trafficking and racketeering charges, claims the allegations are “outrageous and fabricated” according to his spokesperson.

Attorney for Doe, Tony Buzbee defended the lawsuit, saying, “the claims speak for themselves” and condemned an effort to silence victims. “There’s no extortion attempt being made,” Buzbee told reporters.
