Kagiso Rabada retakes the top of ICC men’s Test bowling by displacing Jasprit Bumrah, R. Ashwin, and Josh Hazlewood, among many, after taking nine wickets as South Africa overthrows Bangladesh by innings and 254 runs in Mirpur. He broke a new record as he made three wickets from the first innings of Bangladesh en route to claiming 300 Test wickets in the fewest matches as a South African. He later bowled a spell of 6 for 46 in the second innings, where South Africa secured its first Test win in Asia since 2014.
Bumrah and Ashwin lost their rankings, and India lost to New Zealand at Pune. They both dropped behind Hazlewood and were ranked third and fourth respectively. Pakistani Noman Ali rose eight places after a good outing against England. He finished his career-best ever in the top ten.
First-timers to the batting list, Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand and Saud Shakeel of Pakistan made their way into the top ten. Ravindra took the tenth slot with back-to-back efforts from Bengaluru and had a wonderful century and a half in Pune. Shakeel gained 20 places from the earlier list to his seventh position with a hundred against England.
The 20-year-old returns to third, behind England’s Harry Brook after a good show by Yashasvi Jaiswal of India.
Among the all-rounders, Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz shot up to third after withstanding a gallant 97-run innings in Mirpur and taking a few key wickets. Changes such as these show another interesting phase of Test cricket in which new faces enter and try to push the boundary on the International circuit.
