Lahore Court Cancels Nazish Jahangir Bail in Fraud Case

A Lahore sessions court on Friday canceled the actress Nazish Jahangir Bail in a fraud case registered by the Defence C police station. The court dismissed her bail as she failed to appear before it, while the legal proceedings against the well-known television actress intensified.

It was fellow actress Azan Aswad Haroon who instituted a fraud case against Jahangir, accusing him of borrowing Rs 2.5 million and a car on the promise of returning both within two months, but the deadline passed, and neither money nor the car came back as promised, says she, prompting her to file the case in a court of law.

An FIR lodged by Haroon under Section 420, Pakistan Penal Code, accuses Jahangir of “cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.” The claims presented are serious as this section is generally involved in most fraud cases. He was accused of not returning the borrowed assets six months after the initial agreement.

Haroon further alleged that when she tried to retrieve her belongings, Jahangir sent Sikandar Khan who threatened her with guns, telling her that she would be assaulted if she continued raising the matter. This was a scary twist in the case as the case not only had allegations of such fraud but also threats and coercion.

The court canceled Nazish Jahangir’s interim bail as she failed to appear before the court at the time of her hearing, despite several calls given for her presence. Neither Jahangir nor her lawyers were present. Her plea was dismissed on the grounds of non-pursuance.

According to reports, in its judgment, the court noted, “Despite repeated calls with different intervals, no one has appeared before the court on behalf of the petitioner,” which ultimately led to the denial of her bail application.

Even while Jahangir’s bail was canceled, the courts extended the interim bail of her co-accused Sikandar Khan until the first week of October. He will get temporary relief in the courts as this is going to continue as part of the investigation.

Nazish Jahangir had already appeared in several high-profile cases. Actress Nazish Jahangir was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency cybercrime wing in Karachi in 2020 over allegations of alleged cyber harassment. In this case, she and actor-singer Mohsin Abbas Haider were accused of blackmailing and harassing Fatima Sohail former wife of Haider.

Earlier, she had hogged the headlines for leveling allegations of domestic violence and infidelity against Mohsin Abbas and even an alleged affair with Nazish Jahangir. FIA’s cybercrime investigation found Jahangir and Haider liable for harassing Sohail online and included spreading malice context purportedly fabricated content meant to create a malice context for Sohail.

That is one such case which widely was broadcasted in the media and has drawn forth the increased call for accountability from even those belonging to the entertainment industry when news comes of cyber harassment within Pakistan.
