The National Weather Service (NWS) has updated its advisory for Cuyahoga and Lake counties to a Lake Effect Snow Warning, in effect until 2 a.m. Friday. Geauga County remains under a Winter Weather Advisory through the same period.
Accumulations of 3-8 inches of snow are expected, with the eastern Cuyahoga and western Lake counties likely to see the heaviest snowfall. Additional accumulations of 1-3 inches are expected overnight. Travel should become hazardous tonight, as the visibility drops below a quarter-mile and roads begin to get slick, particularly over bridges and overpasses.
Motorists should avoid traveling whenever possible. If travel is unavoidable, an emergency kit with a flashlight, food, and water should be maintained in a vehicle.
Snow is expected to continue through the early morning hours, changing to a wintry mix by Friday’s commute as temperatures rise into the upper 30s and low 40s. While roads may still be slick during the morning hours, any snow accumulation is expected to melt quickly.
By Friday, rain will be widespread by late morning, with totals of up to 1 inch possible. Wind gusts up to 40 mph are also forecasted, which might make travel conditions a bit worse. Rain will continue into the evening before changing over to lake-effect rain showers, which may continue through Saturday.
Check weather updates on which areas are affected and take appropriate precautions if traveling. Look for updates on weather maps and alerts from trusted sources.
