In preparing for his return in Scream 7, actor Mason Gooding takes center stage for a new Valentine’s Day horror film, Heart Eyes. While he’s renowned for surviving multiple horror franchises, Mason Gooding said he welcomes being called a “Scream King” but wants to meet his on-screen end for good this time.
While doing an interview, Mason Gooding had a joke about how strange it was that he had this streak of survival in horror movies: he survived Scream (2022), and Scream 6, and survived Y2K last year. The actor, however, jokingly admitted that he might also be waiting behind the scenes for a dramatic death.
“Oh, I’m just praying someone has the gall to kill me in a horror movie,” Mason Gooding said. “For some reason, my characters have a level of immortality that eludes my desire to be killed—on screen, of course.”
Heart Eyes, by Christopher Landon and Michael Kennedy, follows a masked killer targeting couples on Valentine’s Day. However, Mason Gooding’s character, Jay, and his co-star Olivia Holt’s character, Ally, are just coworkers who pretend to be a couple—yet still find themselves stalked.
Mason Gooding even described how he would want to die in his ideal horror movie death: “It only makes sense that we would die the same way we were brought into this world—naked and afraid.” His co-star Holt responded to it with a simple yet amused reply: “Unreal.
With Heart Eyes hitting the theaters next weekend, just before Valentine’s Day, fans are soon going to find out if Mason Gooding is going to carry on his streak of horror survival or finally get his wish of a dramatic on-screen demise.
