It confirmed that it has formally selected Mohammad Rizwan to be its captain for the national white-ball team before Pakistan heads out for any of the highly critical future tours, and it assigned Salman Ali Agha as its vice-captain with a new wave of dawn in the wake of their preparation tours ahead of both Australia and Zimbabwe.
The three-match ODI and T20I series against Australia, and then the similar fixtures in Zimbabwe, are the first assignments that the captain will be required to fulfill. The PCB has thus far shown that it believes in Rizwan’s capacity to unite and motivate the team, keeping its eye on building momentum toward the ICC Champions Trophy.
There is also the added experience and stability brought into the leadership group with the appointment of Salman Ali Agha as vice-captain. With outstanding domestic performances and his increasing prominence within the team, Agha would be a valuable deputy to Rizwan as he looks to build a competitive team environment.
The PCB is very optimistic about the leadership combination of Rizwan and Agha giving the side a great foundation to build on and make a great success in the international arena. These tours also being a build-up towards next year’s Champions Trophy, the board hopes for a cohesive and disciplined side under their leadership.
The team is set to depart for Australia on October 28, and the tournament is to begin soon after. In the squad, there are both experienced players and fresh additions that indicate the PCB’s shrewd focus on taking both experience and youth.
