Rumors and images about the highly rumored Switch 2 are spreading and causing excitement in Nintendo circles. While the company hasn’t made any official announcement about the next-gen console, accessory maker Genki made a mock-up at the CES 2025 event in Las Vegas, based on an allegedly actual model of the Switch 2, giving weight to months of rumors and leaks.
Key Features Revealed:
Genki claims that the Switch 2 will come with magnetic Joy-Cons, which will replace the sliding rail mechanism of its predecessor. The Joy-Cons will have an optical sensor within their mounting channels, which may allow for mouse-like functionality when paired with additional attachments. This is similar to design concepts seen in Lenovo’s Legion Go handheld.
The mockup contains a U-shaped kickstand, leaked previously, and contains a new “C” button as well whose purpose is yet speculative. Those design elements point to a more flexible as well as ergonomic console compared to the original Switch.
Retail Leaks and Accessories
Further adding excitement, the reported retail listings say that the Switch 2 can support MicroSD Express cards which have transfer rates as fast as SSDs. It will supposedly be available with 256GB and 512GB storage, all of which could further boost the gaming prowess.
Genki CEO Eddie Tsai stated his clients can feel the Joy-Cons feel secure for regular usage and come off with a release button. Comparing it to Valve’s Steam Deck OLED, Switch 2 is a bit bigger but delivers so much more comfort; a proper shift toward hybrid gaming that comforts both console and handheld fans alike.
Official Announcement Awaited
The company has confirmed that it will release the Switch 2 before April 2025, but it hasn’t revealed the date or the price. Given the build-up in rumors and mockups, fans have been eagerly looking for official details about what might seem to be Nintendo’s most ambitious console ever.
Till then, the gaming community can only wait and speculate on how they will redefine next-generation portable gaming.
