The Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2024-25 will begin tomorrow with a prize money of PKR 12.6 million. 18 teams of the 16 regional sides of Pakistan will contend for 16 regional sides in seven cities of Pakistan. Defending champions Karachi Region Whites will commence the defense with Peshawar Region on Ashfaq Ground at Charsadda.
The tournament is divided into a massive prize amount the winner will be rewarded with PKR 7.5 million, while the runner-up teams will get PKR 4 million. The teams have been divided into three groups. The groups are Group A comprising Abbottabad Region, Faisalabad Region, Hyderabad Region, Islamabad Region, Lahore Region Whites, and Larkana Region. Group B consists of AJK Region, Bahawalpur Region, Karachi Region Whites, Multan Region, Peshawar Region, and Rawalpindi Region, whereas Group C consists of Dera Murad Jamali, FATA Region, Karachi Region Blues, Lahore Region Blues, Quetta Region, and Sialkot Region.
Every team will play at least five matches in the group stage, after which a top team from each group will enter the triangular stage. The three finalists will play between December 14 and 18, and venues will be announced later. For this year, all first-class matches will be played in three new venues: Ashfaq Cricket Ground in Charsadda, Rana Naveed Cricket Academy in Sheikhupura, and Saeed Sports City in Lahore, each of which will play five group stage matches.
The most significant change is the use of Duke balls for the tournament, which will be done after a thorough assessment of local pitch conditions. The purpose is to improve competition quality and showcase the talent of the young players while preparing them for international challenges as well.
