Sling TV is increasing all its plans collectively, effective 20 December 2024. The first hike since 2022 and that too because of inflation as well as a rise in programming costs.

The service will raise the Sling Orange and Sling Blue plans from $40 to $45.99 monthly. The Orange + Blue combo plan will be raised from $55 to $61 per month. Sling said the moves are necessary to keep the service as the industry grapples with price pressure.

The company noted in a statement, “The cost we incur to bring you the programming you enjoy continues to rise well above inflation. While we continue working hard to keep our prices low, these increases are inevitable.

This is part of the wave of price increases throughout the streaming industry. Competitors such as YouTube TV and Hulu + Live TV charge $72.99 and $83 a month for comparable services, so Sling TV’s plans will remain some of the lowest-priced options even after this increase.

The recent additions touted by Sling TV included more than 50 paid channels and increased 4K streaming. Promotional offers for new subscribers included half-price for the first month and discounted add-ons, including Paramount+ with Showtime.

While the increase in price does not sit well with the consumer, Sling TV still represents an economical way to have live streaming television compared to other providers and thus one of the least expensive ways to cut the cord.
