Fans of Squid Game can rejoice as the wait for the much-awaited new season of the global smash South Korean drama comes true this Thursday, December 26, on Netflix, with new episodes that make the series dive deeper and further into its captivating, survival, revenge, mystery narrative.
Season 2 jumps forward three years from when Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-Jae) emerged victorious, winning the prize money of 45.6 billion won in the deadly games. However, he doesn’t spend his newfound fortune but instead goes on a mission to dismantle the sinister organization behind the games. His main target is the mysterious Front Man, portrayed by Lee Byung-hun.
According to Netflix’s official synopsis, “Gi-hun once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another life-or-death contest with fresh participants vying for the massive prize.”
This season brings back familiar faces such as Wi Ha-jun as police officer Jun-ho and Gong Yoo in a mysterious role, besides new cast members such as Yim Si-wan and Kang Ha-neul. The action-packed episodes promise intense moments, complex characters, and shocking twists.
Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has revealed the second season will have a total of seven episodes-shorter than Season 1. However, he still assures that the narrative cut into Seasons 2 and 3 will do justice to the gripping storyline.
