A Festive Satirical Tradition
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert kept its audience in stitches yesterday with its latest holiday cartoon, “It’s a Worm-derful Life.” Running since 2018, the annual tradition blends satire and humor to create something unique for the holiday season.
This years ten-minute animated short takes viewers on a tour from Santa’s workshop through a dystopian coliseum within a fictional “MAGA-lopolis.” At the start of the narrative, Santa learns of the dire situation: a family of worms in Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s brain is running out of food as they near the end of devouring his gray matter.
Before he can act, Santa is kidnapped by Elon Musk’s Department of Universal Christmas Holiday Efficiency (DOUCHE) and brought to the coliseum. There, Donald Trump demands Santa remove him from the naughty list—or face execution via a shark tank and holiday light electrocution.
Creative Team and Cast
Directed by Matt Lappin and Tim Luecke and co-written with Jay Katsir, the cartoon stars comedian Matt Friend as Trump, RFK Jr., Mitch McConnell, and Hunter Biden. There’s Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, and Wolf Blitzer animated, all adding to the satirical charm.
A Holiday Farewell
The holiday episode ended with a fun musical performance by Louis Cato and the Late Show Band, who premiered their new holiday song, “This Time of Year.”
The Late Show returns to the air on Monday, January 6, 2025, bringing more comedy and sharp commentary into the new year.
