Dow University of Health Sciences announced several strict measures on Friday to ensure the safety and merit of the Medical and Dental College Admission Test, to be conducted on Sunday. These efforts were presented by Prof Nazli Hossain, pro-vice-chancellor of DUHS, at a press conference held at A.Q. Khan Auditorium on Friday.
This year, over 38,000 students are expected to appear in the MDCAT test across six centers spread across five cities in Sindh. In Karachi, a total of 12,846 candidates would appear in the exams. The exams would also be conducted at DUHS’s Ojha campus and NED University. Some measures are setting up mobile jammers to restrict unauthorized device use, and in three stages body searches would be conducted strictly. The examination centers will not have unauthorized persons, including media entering any center, said Prof. Hossain.
The provincial government directed guidelines wherein Section 144 can be imposed if necessary to restrict access around the exam venues. Students are advised to arrive on time and come only with their admit card and identification; anything other than these will be confiscated.
During the same time, the provincial government of Punjab also implemented a parallel security arrangement. Internet and mobile services will be suspended within a radius of 500 meters in the 12 districts where MDCAT will be conducted; it will impact around 82,500 candidates. Section 144 has also been imposed to restrict movement in areas around centers of examination so that a controlled environment could be ensured for test-takers.
These elaborate procedures guarantee both provincial administrations that the MDCAT will not be tampered with nor will cheating take place at any stage of the test. The answer keys will be put on the DUHS website by Sunday, September 22nd, by evening.
