SZA is also preparing to drop Lana; it’s the deluxe of her acclaimed SOS album, and she’s been teasing them for months. The soon-to-be-released album is scheduled for December 20. Here, one can expect her to put out a collection of fresh tracks that provide a more light and beautiful quality than what was presented in her previous work, because of the angsty tone.
The album was previewed with a music video for Drive, starring none other than Ben Stiller. The visual, directed by Bradley J. Calder, features Stiller lip-syncing to the track while driving through rain-soaked streets before the camera transitions to a forest scene where SZA is seen frolicking in the grass. Whimsical imagery fits with the themes of transformation and escape in the album.
SZA first introduced Lana during a concert in September 2023, referring to the deluxe version of SOS as an entirely different album. “It’s like a whole ‘nother album,” she said, noting that it would feature 7 to 10 tracks. Unlike the emotional SOS, the new body of work finds Lana as more reflective and liberal that centers on personal growth.
SOS, which dropped now in December 2022 sets a mark in music history from the books of SZA considering that she got multiple accolades and Grammy nominations. The bops “Kill Bill, and “Good Days” had placed much pressure on this drop from Lana.
The deluxe album is due on December 20 ahead of what promises to be an eagerly awaited co-headlining tour alongside Kendrick Lamar in 2025.
