The major winter storm, expected this weekend to impact the central U.S., brings a good chance for snow, freezing rain, and hazardous travel. According to the FOX Forecast Center, the impacts from the storm will be wide-ranging from the central Plains, through the Ohio Valley, and beyond.
The core of it goes into the Pacific Ocean and slams ashore Saturday, spilling heavy mountain snow over the Northwest. The system should be even more potent when it crosses into the central part of the nation by Sunday, bringing mixed precipitation to that part of the world as it warms up somewhat as it makes its way ashore.
For the Midwest key cities, the real scenic effect is: that snow will begin falling Sunday, with freezing rain and thunderstorms in the mix, too. Potential for ice accumulations and travel disruptions from Sunday night east into the Ohio Valley, mid-South, and parts of the mid-Atlantic.
Into Monday, it is forecasted to dissipate somewhat as the storm passes through the Appalachians, though it is possible to have continued wintry weather as far eastward as the Carolinas by this time. Forecasts include at least “plowable” snow in areas from the north-central Plains over into the Ohio Valley.
Temperatures tonight will be falling into the upper 20s under partly cloudy skies. Thursday should have some sun, but the cloud cover builds in, along with light snow showers later tonight. Friday and Saturday look quiet but cold ahead of the storm, which should arrive Sunday.
