In his appearance on FOX News‘s “Jesse Watters Primetime,” actor Zachary Levi sounded off on the crisis of California’s wildfires by talking to FOX News host Jesse Watters. Among his ideas during the discussion is the possibility that state leaders committed criminal negligence when they failed to keep fire prevention under control and disaster preparedness.
Zachary Levi, a resident of Ventura, California, said that he had personal reasons to care about the issue, having witnessed the recent fires that ravaged his hometown. He mentioned the 2017 Thomas Fire, which still affects his hometown. He criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom, saying he had mismanaged resources and not done enough to prevent such disasters.
He stressed that there has been no single new reservoir for the past decade, which, he said could have helped keep runoff water so that drought and wildfires are somewhat mitigated. He questioned state environmental regulations that protect the delta smelt fish over a fire mitigation approach.
Zachary Levi raised concern regarding insurance policies as he pointed out that many Californians became fire insurance less because of regulatory determinations. “This is a fire hazard. These people need support, not stripped resources,” he said.
The conversation also drifted to broader issues on leadership and accountability, where Zachary Levi accused Newsom of being hypocritical and where he has been on record seemingly flouting pandemic guidelines the man himself laid down.
Finally, Zachary Levi appeals for more accountability measures and calls on state and national leaders to focus on reinforcing safety and infrastructure upgrades in preventing such disasters.
