Sony Pictures has just released the much-awaited trailer for 28 Years Later, Danny Boyle’s sequel to his classic zombie films. The teaser introduces a world in which the “Rage Virus,” dormant for 28 years, has awakened once more to wreak havoc and terror anew.

The movie starts with a summary of how the virus has destroyed the UK and left society to bear its scars. Survivors on an island that was thought to be safe are now attacked as the zombie threat reaches their shores. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, and Ralph Fiennes appear in intense scenes, such as a desperate fight for survival as the infected close in.

The movie is set after 28 Weeks Later and portrays a group of survivors trying to get through a post-apocalyptic world. The movie, 28 Years Later, explores themes of survival and civilization regression, where survivors would revert to primitive methods of hunting, such as using bows and arrows.

While fan favorite 28 Days Later star Cillian Murphy doesn’t appear in the trailer, fans have been hypothesizing he will make an appearance as a zombie. Murphy reappears in an executive producer role, but the trailer hints that his character will have little to no part in the plot of the sequel. The sequel tees up another sequel as well: 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple, directed by Nia DaCosta.
